NEWLY SIGNED HOTELS In 2004, NH Hoteles signed contracts to add 10 new hotels with a total of 1,685 rooms. Three of these will be in Spain; one in Barcelona, one in Valencia and another in Salamanca. In Barcelona, a contract was signed for a 138-room hotel, in Valencia a 100-room hotel, and the future NH Salamanca, which will be a member of the Collection category, will have 37 rooms. Seven new hotels were signed outside of Spain in 2004; two in Italy, two in Romania and another three in the Netherlands, Mexico and Germany. In Italy, NH Hoteles signed two hotels with a total of 615 rooms divided between the NH Laguna Palace hotel, which is already operational in Mestre (Venice), and a hotel in Milan that will open in 2006. NH Hoteles signed an additional five hotels abroad: one 206-room hotel in The Hague, the Netherlands, two in Romania, where one, with 78 rooms, will be in Bucharest and the other in Timisoara with 83 rooms, a 135-room hotel in Santa Fe, Mexico, and finally a hotel with 293 rooms in Düsseldorf (Germany). Accordingly, NH Hoteles maintains its objective of strengthening its presence in preferential markets and continuing to grow in markets with the most business potential, this year entering two new markets: Italy and Romania. To which we have to add the entry into the United Kingdom at the end of March 2005. NH HOTELES AND ITS EMPLOYEES Chain employees embody the best of the NH brand and are its greatest asset. 34 A YEAR OF CONSOLIDATION Throughout 2003 and 2004, NH Hoteles defined an important number of general Human Resources policies and innovative tools, such as the new Performance Management and Management by Objectives system, in addition to consolidating and monitoring all of the processes, policies and procedures created in previous years. PROJECTS DEVELOPED The NH Employee Card was created and serves to identify employees as an integral part of NH Hoteles, as well as enabling them to obtain discounts and special rates at all of the chain’s establishments. NH Hoteles developed the NH Idea project with the objective of increasing employee satisfaction, promoting and rewarding the implementation of ideas with a quantitative business impact. In addition to fostering the sharing of best practices and motivating employees. Furthermore, an innovative Performance Management system has been created with a view to achieving more fluid communication between managers and employees, recognising talent, improving human capital and increasing NH Hoteles’ integration culture. The company designed the new NH Hoteles Welcome Plan to explain the company culture to new employees in a very graphic manner. 35 Throughout 2004, over 230,000 hours of training were given in which all employees from the different areas of the company participated.
